MASON CITY – A four-Vehicle accident north of Mason City left three people injured Thursday evening.
At about 9:33 PM on February 24, Cerro Gordo county deputies responded to a four vehicle accident with injuries north of County Road B20 on Highway 65. During the investigation at the scene, three people were found to be injured in the accident.
A preliminary investigation found that a Volkswagon Jetta, driven northbound by Trevor David Smith, 21, of Mason City, passed two other vehicles also going Northbound. Smith then slowed to make a U-turn on the highway. When Smith did so, he crossed onto the center of the roadway. At that time, a Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by Danielle Marie Porter, 17, of Mason City was approaching from the North. When Smith pulled into the center of the roadway toward the northbound lanes, Porter veered to avoid a collision with Smith and went into the northbound lane, striking Smith. After striking Smith, her vehicle then struck a Honda CR-V also going North, driven by Georgie Elizabeth Rozell, 17, of Manly. The CR-V then spun into the East ditch. The Trailblazer driven by Porter then struck another northbound vehicle, a Ford Fusion, driven by Dakota Francien Popp, 27, of Northwood. Popp and Porter were both extricated from their vehicles by Mason City Firefighters. Porter was transported to Mercy One North Iowa by Mason City Fire Medics. Popp and Rozell were taken by private vehicle to Mercy One North Iowa. All three were being treated for non life threatening injuries. Smith was uninjured.
All four vehicles received extensive damage. The investigation is ongoing.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mason City Fire Department.
