WATERLOO — A Northern Iowa motorcyclist was killed Sunday night after his motorcycle struck the rear of a pickup truck traveling along Highway 218.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. on August 2, 2026, on northbound Highway 218 near mile marker 181 in Black Hawk County, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Investigators said a 2020 BMW motorcycle operated by 58-year-old Jeffrey Scott Millen of Cedar Falls and a 2020 Ford truck driven by 20-year-old John Paul Lenz of White Deer, Texas, were both traveling north when the motorcycle struck the rear of the truck.
The Ford was pulling a 2022 KZRV trailer at the time of the collision.
Millen suffered fatal injuries and was transported by Waterloo Fire and Rescue to Allen Hospital.
No injuries were reported for Lenz.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
Waterloo police, Waterloo Fire and Rescue, the Iowa Department of Transportation and Rasmusson Towing assisted at the scene.
Millen’s death follows another fatal motorcycle crash in Waterloo that claimed the life of a Northern Iowa rider in July.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reported 171 traffic deaths across the state during 2026 as of August 5. The preliminary count may change as investigations are completed and additional deaths are determined to be crash-related.
