Katherine “Katie” Janice Fox, 42, of Sumner, died peacefully Thursday, July 9, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Katie was born May 17, 1984, to Kevin and Holly Hobbs in Grinnell.
She spent portions of her childhood in Michigan and western Iowa before attending her junior and senior high school years in Moville. According to her obituary, Katie was active in 4-H, showed rabbits at the Woodbury County Fair and enjoyed music, developing the ability to play several instruments.
She graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 2002.
That same year, Katie met Cory Fox, who would become her husband. The couple married June 11, 2011, in Waterloo.
They became the parents of three children, Jaxson, Kolson and Natahlia.
According to her obituary, family was at the center of Katie’s life, and being a mother brought her the greatest joy.
Katie worked primarily in the food-service industry, including management positions.
Away from work, she enjoyed spending time outdoors, including kayaking and canoeing. She also liked cooking and collecting dolls.
Katie is survived by her husband, Cory; children Jaxson, Kolson and Natahlia; parents Holly and Kevin Hobbs of Fremont, Michigan; brothers Brandon Hobbs of Cadillac, Michigan, Byron Hobbs and his wife, Brittni, of Fremont, Michigan, and Benjamin Hobbs of Fremont, Michigan; father-in-law Kevin Fox of Sumner; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jack and Shirley Hobbs and Darrell and Pat Proctor, and her mother-in-law, Elisha Mabb.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Sumner City Park in Sumner.
A prayer service will begin at 3 p.m. at the park.
