CHARLES CITY – A Mason City driver was cited after police said she failed to obey a traffic control device and was involved in a two-vehicle crash that left both drivers reporting pain.
According to the Charles City Police Department, officers investigated the crash at approximately 1:45 p.m. on May 12, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 18 and Freeman Street.
Police said a white 2012 Toyota Venza driven by Kim Marie Dwine, 74, of Mason City, was eastbound on Gilbert Street when Dwine failed to obey a traffic control device.
The Toyota was then struck by a silver 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Cory Spieker, 45, of Charles City, who was southbound on Highway 18, according to police.
Both drivers reported complaints of pain after the crash. Police said they planned to drive themselves to be seen by medical personnel.
Dwine was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, a simple misdemeanor.
Estimated damage to Dwine’s vehicle was listed at $3,000. Damage to Spieker’s pickup was estimated at $1,500.
Iowa court records show the citation filed against Dwine in Floyd County carries $210.25 in total court debt, including a $135 fine, $55 in court costs and a $20.25 surcharge.
