CHARLES CITY — Maxine Willert, a lifelong Charles City resident whose life centered on family, work and the simple joys of time spent together, has died at age 94.
Willert passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
Maxine Ellen Teeter Willert was born November 1, 1931, to Earl and Eunice Walker Teeter. She grew up with five brothers, Robert, Norman, Raymond, James and Roger, and two sisters, Vivian Way and Marlise Reece.
Willert attended Charles City High School and remained rooted in the community throughout her life.
On August 26, 1948, she married Verne Willert in Garner. Together, they raised four children, Mick, Denny, Brad and Sandy, and built a marriage that lasted 63 years before Verne’s death in 2011.
Willert spent much of her working career at Oliver/White Farm, part of Charles City’s industrial history and a major employer remembered by generations of local families.
After retirement, Maxine and Verne enjoyed time at Lake Pepin, where they spent many days and weekends boating and fishing, including catching walleye. During Iowa winters, they traveled to Rockport, Texas, where they enjoyed warmer weather and made new friends.
Willert is survived by her sons, Michael and his wife, Linda, of Nashua, and Bradley of Charles City; her daughter, Sandra Hayworth and her husband, Kerry, of Charles City; daughter-in-law Vicki Willert of Helena, Montana; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Gaiser and her husband, Derrick, of Lisbon, Iowa, Michelle Brunt and her husband, Anthony, of Fridley, Minnesota, Katie Adams and her husband, Paul, of Cedar Rapids, Libbie Willert of Marshalltown, and Zachary Willert and his wife, Missy, of Helena, Montana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verne, in 2011; and her son, Dennis, in 2025.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be next to her husband of 63 years at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
