CHARLES CITY — Sandra Kay “Sandy” Huisman, 82, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Born October 22, 1943, in Charles City to Donald and Dorothy Bonwell, Sandy’s life carried deep North Iowa roots, including memories of growing up in Nashua and Charles City. She later lived in California, Colorado and Nebraska before returning home to Iowa with her granddaughter.
Sandy worked in the telephone industry, beginning as an operator with AT&T and later training with US West and Qwest. Her life is being remembered for her independence, laughter, love of travel, devotion to family and the joy she found in being a grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Wayne Huisman, and daughter, Rhonda Kay Huisman.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church, with a luncheon afterward. Following cremation, a private burial service will be held at a later date.
