MASON CITY – Shortly before 5:00 PM Wednesday, an NIT reader said said that Highway 122 was starting to buckle in some places.
Between the Mason City Airport and Mason City, eastbound, the asphalt was protruding and making a big “bump”, as it was reported. Traffic was staying to the south lane, with Mason City Police Department watching the traffic flow.
Another buckle was reported on Killdeer.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines advises that the heat is not going away until Saturday at the earliest:
“EXTENDED PERIOD OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT….HOT AND HUMID AIR WILL REMAIN IN PLACE ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS. CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN VERY WARM THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AS WELL…RESULTING IN LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE HEAT.”

I cant wait until we have pouring down rain because I’m standing in it NAKED!
Ran over this last night. If it would have been a motorcycle that didn’t see it, it could be bad!!!!!
I did hit that yesterday on a bike. Thankfully, it wasn’t as bad as it looks in that picture. I still felt it pretty good. Since I wasn’t expecting it, it kind of kicked my butt up off the seat.
Motorcyclist need to pay attention for these types of road conditions. Also, pay close attention to the cracks and seams that have been sealed with tar. The heat is making those areas sticky and greasy. Easy to slip on.
