MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors approved a new 35 mph speed limit for portions of rural roads during its regular meeting held on May 4.
The board met at 10:02 a.m. with Chairman Casey Callanan, Vice Chairman Carl Ginapp and Supervisor Chris Watts present.
Supervisors approved the meeting agenda, minutes from the April 27 regular session and county claims. The county’s claims list totaled $273,788.53.
One of the main actions came after County Engineer Brandon Billings provided an update. Supervisors unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-25, establishing a 35 mph speed limit in both directions on certain secondary roads following an engineering and traffic investigation requested by concerned citizens.
The new speed limit applies beginning at the intersection of 315th Street and Vine Avenue, also known as S62, west to the intersection of 315th Street and Ulmus Avenue, and north on Ulmus Avenue to the intersection of Ulmus Avenue and 320th Street. The resolution also calls for proper signs to be installed.
The board also authorized Bolton + Menk to conduct a field review in Drainage District 53 after a report of standing water. The work order was listed as 2026-04-27-01 and was reported by Brian Ott.
Supervisors also approved dock permits 51P, 56P and 57P, and approved an Environmental Health Service Manager report concerning a manure management plan update for Christiansen Farms LLC – F-046, site number 59541, to be forwarded to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The board also held discussion regarding fiscal agent services to Children’s Alliance.
At 10:16 a.m., supervisors entered closed session under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(c) to discuss strategy with counsel in matters involving current or possible litigation. The board returned to open session at 11:08 a.m. and adjourned one minute later.
