Mason City man arrested 3 times in recent days

MASON CITY – 23-year-old Tony Joe Jones of 411 10th Street NE in Mason City has become a familiar face to local law enforcement and jail staff since last Friday, February 24th, when he was arrested by Mason City police. Officers had responded to report of a vehicle stuck in the snow in the 100 block of 29th Street SW in Mason City. As a result Jones was transported to Cerro Gordo County Jail on one aggravated misdemeanor count of driving while barred.

Jones again found himself being booked into Cerro Gordo County Jail at 2:40am Thursday morning after a Cerro Gordo County deputy sheriff pulled him over near the intersection of Hwy 65 and 340th Street south of Manly. This time Jones was transported to Cerro Gordo County Jail for one misdemeanor of no SR-22 insurance in addition to on one aggravated misdemeanor count of driving while barred.

Hours after being released from the jail on Friday afternoon a Cerro Gordo County deputy sheriff pulled Jones over near the intersection of Kentucky Avenue South and 6th Street SE in Mason City. Jones was transported to Cerro Gordo County Jail for one misdemeanor count of no SR-22 insurance and one simple misdemeanor count of driving while suspended in addition to on one aggravated misdemeanor count of driving while barred.

A defendant convicted of an simple misdemeanor in Iowa faces a maximum of two years in prison and a $625 fine.

In addition to the fines and jail time a defendant could receive, Iowa’s Department of Transportation can sanction additional suspension periods of up to five years for each driving while barred conviction.

Jones has since been released from the Cerro Gordo County jail pending further court proceedings in the newest case.

Court records show Jones has a plea review and sentencing set for March 12th for an unrelated driving while barred charge in Cerro Gordo County from an arrest on December 18th.

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY
