MASON CITY — A Mason City man is facing a child endangerment charge after police say he repeatedly struck a disabled child with a belt, causing bodily injury.
Zachary Tyler Price, 32, allegedly struck the child multiple times on December 12, 2025. The child lived in the same household as Price, Mason City Police Chief Mike McKelvey told NorthIowaToday.com.
“The charge alleges Price struck a child living in the same household with a belt multiple times,” McKelvey said. “This activity allegedly caused bodily injury to the minor child.”
Mason City police filed a criminal complaint on June 3, 2026, and applied for an arrest warrant. A statewide warrant carrying a $2,000 cash-only bond was issued June 4.
Price (pictured at top) was arrested and booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail at 12:33 p.m. on June 12 on a charge listed in jail records as child endangerment involving a handicapped child.
Court records show Price posted cash bond on June 15. He entered a written plea of not guilty on July 6.
A judge later granted a request for a no-contact order, which was served by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office on July 21.
Price is charged with child endangerment under Iowa Code section 726.6(8), an aggravated misdemeanor. The case is filed in Cerro Gordo County District Court as AGCR034967.
A hearing is scheduled for August 17, while a jury trial had been set for August 18. No disposition has been entered in the case.
Price is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
