WATERLOO — An early Sunday morning shooting in Waterloo has turned into a homicide investigation after police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle in a west-side parking lot.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 1:01 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, to the parking lot at 516 W. Mullan Avenue following a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Police immediately began lifesaving measures before the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no active threat to the public.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released as authorities work to notify family members.
Waterloo Police detectives continue to investigate what led to the deadly shooting. Officials have not announced any arrests or identified any suspects.
Investigators are asking residents and business owners near West Mullan Avenue to review surveillance footage recorded between approximately 12:30 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Anyone who observed suspicious activity or has video that could aid the investigation is encouraged to contact the Waterloo Police Department.
