Lifelong Learning Institute Comes to Charles City

The spring 2012 schedule of classes for the Lifelong Learning Institute is now available for the public.

“The new catalogues are out and we are excited to announce that for the first time, Lifelong Learning Institute classes will be offered at the North Iowa Area Community College Charles City learning center,” said Susan Nagle, Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute at NIACC.

Lifelong Learning Institute classes are held in Clear Lake, Mason City and Charles City. The new class schedule provides details about which classes are held in which communities. It is also available on the NIACC web site: www.niacc.edu

NIACC‘s Lifelong Learning Institute is a community of adults who learn for the joy of learning without grades, tests, papers or long-term classes. The Lifelong Learning Institute serves people of all educational backgrounds and provides the perfect way to expand knowledge while meeting other like-minded adults.

The spring semester offers something for everyone with topics such as: Awesome Mason City Women, Still Life Oil Painting, Haiku Poetry, Varieties of Christian Experience, The Writer’s Study Circle, BlueZone, The Secrets of Mental Math (remember, no tests!)

Also available this spring is The Founders Series. Each session features a different Founding Father, including Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
A spring semester coffee kick-off will be held 9:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday January 24 at the Muse Norris Conference Center on the NIACC campus. This is a great opportunity to meet new members, potential members and faculty of the Lifelong Learning Institute. This is open to members and non-members. Bring a friend! NIACC’s Lifelong Learning Institute focuses on fun, friendship and college level learning, Members can take advantage of short courses, lectures and discussions, study circles, social events, civic engagement opportunities and more. Topics for the classes are based on member requests and interests.

A $99 annual membership fee provides members with membership benefits, including all the privileges of a student ID; such as use of NIACC facilities, library use and orientation, passes to athletic events, artist chats prior to Performing Arts Series event, career/retirement coaching sessions, college credit course audits at one-half tuition, and CE computer classes at one-half tuition. There is no additional tuition for Lifelong Learning Institute courses and members can register for classes in Charles City, Mason City and /or Clear Lake.
