MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider authorizing nearly $165,000 in taxpayer funding for 16 outside organizations during its regular meeting Monday, August 3, 2026.
The board will meet at 10 a.m. in the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse boardroom.
The agenda broadly describes the matter as authorization for the chairman to sign “Outside Funding Request Agreements,” but supporting documents reveal proposed payments totaling as much as $164,870 for fiscal year 2027.
The largest proposed allocation is $50,000 for the Mason City Family YMCA. The agreement says the money would be used for organizational support.
Elderbridge Agency on Aging would be eligible to receive up to $43,920 for organizational support.
The remaining proposed agreements include:
Best Buddies Iowa — Up to $1,500 to provide inclusion services to young people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Community Kitchen — Up to $9,000 to provide meals.
Crisis Intervention Service — Up to $7,000 to support safe housing, crisis services, counseling and community education programs.
Charles City Foster Grandparent Program — Up to $3,800 to support foster-grandparent volunteers working within schools.
YSS — Up to $8,000 to support various programs.
Habitat for Humanity — Up to $5,850 to purchase equipment.
Kinney Pioneer Museum — Up to $5,000 to create an archive and storage room.
Mason City Senior Activity Center — Up to $1,000 for organizational support.
Mason City Youth Task Force — Up to $7,500 for organizational support.
NIACC Alumni Association — Up to $2,000 for organizational support.
NIACC Pappajohn Center — Up to $5,000 for organizational support.
North Iowa Area Council of Governments — Up to $5,000 for organizational support.
Northern Lights Homeless Shelter — Up to $10,000 to provide temporary shelter.
Plymouth Betterment Committee — Up to $300 to support the Applefest community event.
Mason City Family YMCA — Up to $50,000 for organizational support.
Each proposed agreement would cover the period from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
The agreements state that the listed amounts are maximum funding levels, with the timing of payments left to the county’s discretion. They also say the county’s obligation to provide the money is discretionary and that funding may be stopped at any time without notice to the receiving organization.
The supervisors have not yet approved the agreements. The board is only scheduled to consider authorizing Chairman Casey Callanan to sign them during Monday’s meeting.
Other items on the agenda include approval of county claims, payroll and drainage matters, along with approval of the agenda and minutes from the July 27 meeting.
A public comment period will be available for agenda items.
