DES MOINES – Absentee ballot request forms will be sent to all registered voters in Iowa after legislators approved a plan Friday.
An emergency directive to conduct a statewide mailing of absentee ballot request forms to Iowa’s active registered voters for the November general election was approved by the Legislative Council. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate, who oversaw record-setting voting in Iowa in recent elections, had this to say of the directive:
“I want Iowa voters and poll workers to be safe during this pandemic while we conduct a clean, fair and secure election. After consulting with all 99 county auditors, I believe the best way to accomplish that goal is by mailing an absentee ballot request form to every active registered voter in the state. Voters will still have the option of casting their ballot in person and we will provide resources to protect Iowans who choose that method. This process worked great in the June primary and believe it will work in the general election.”
This action comes as Governor Kim Reynolds signed legislation weeks ago that limited Pates’ ability to reach voters. As NIT reported on June 27, 2020: HF2486: an Act relating to the conduct of elections, including emergency powers, procedures relating to electors, and the use of a county seal on materials related to elections. The legislation limits the powers of Republican Secretary of State Paul Pate, whose actions helped create record voter turnout in Iowa in the last elections. Pate now cannot mail out absentee ballot requests to all active voters for the November 3 election. He would also need approval from legislators to make other emergency election changes.
Even though Pate is a Republican, he has the CORRECT idea.

What can go wrong ? New York just had some elections – mostly all mail in – elections ended over a month ago – no winners announced yet – Seems 28% of ALL MAIL IN BALLOTS ARE BOGUS/INVALID OR CORRUPT LIARS ! Where is ballot counter Joe the BASEMENT at when you need him.
All the article says is that the state is going to be sending out absentee ballot requests. Do some losers need their 15 minutes of fame so bad that they remark on something so simple and informative? Please, get a life.
