SUMNER — Cecelia J. Waskow, 88, of Sumner, died Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, with the Rev. Tracy Hinkel officiating.
Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Sumner.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, at St. John Lutheran Church and for one hour before Thursday’s service at the church.
Memorials may be made in Cecelia’s name to St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner.
Cecelia was born August 26, 1937. She married Jerome “Jerry” Waskow on February 12, 1956, at the Little Brown Church near Nashua.
The couple built a loving life together in Sumner and became the parents of four children, Craig, David, Kevin and Michelle. Cecelia and Jerry shared nearly 69 years of marriage before his death in January 2025.
Cecelia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who placed her family at the center of her life. She took great pride in watching generations of her family grow and treasured the time they spent together.
She was also active in the Sumner community and was associated with local civic activities for many years. Her willingness to become involved and help others reflected her caring nature and commitment to the community she called home.
Cecelia was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Her faith remained an important part of her life and brought her comfort, fellowship and lasting friendships.
She is survived by her children, Craig Waskow and his wife, Nancy, of Union Valley, Texas, David Waskow and his wife, Cheryl, of Sumner, Kevin Waskow and Laurie Heyer of Boise, Idaho, and Michelle Patterson and her husband, Brent, of Vinton.
Cecelia is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jennifer McGinn and her husband, Joe, Justin Waskow and his wife, Megan, Beth Hauser and her husband, Josh, Brian Waskow and his wife, Kayla, Brock Waskow and his wife, Sarah, Trevor Waskow and his wife, Lauren, Seth Patterson and Brynn Patterson; several step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome “Jerry” Waskow.
