Drunken Clear Lake woman arrested for new assault on peace officer incident

MASON CITY – Mason City police responded to a report of a subject causing a disturbance at 311 5th Street NW shortly before 1am Wednesday morning. When officers arrived 26-year-old Ashley Elizabeth Klein was arrested for causing the disturbance after resisting officers. In the incident report Klein is listed as a resident of Clear Lake.

Klein was transported and booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail shortly after 2 AM.

As a result of Klein’s actions she was charged with;

1 count of serious assault on a peace officer, a serious misdermeanor.
1 count of interference with official acts, a simple misdermeanor.
1 count of public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.

Klein recently served 30 days in the Cerro Gordo County jail for a September 14th incident in which she seriously assaulted another Mason City police officer responding to a call in which she was allegedly the victim of the assault.

Klein pled guilty to the previous serious assault on a peace officer charge on September 29th. District Court Judge Gregg Rosenbladt ordered he to serve 30 days for the offense with time served. Klein was fined $315, with a $110.25 in surcharges, and $160 in court costs assessed against her. The full amount of $585.25 remains unpaid.

Ashley Klein currently has a warrant for her arrest in Scott County, Iowa after she failed to appear to court proceedings on July 11th of this year. Davenport police charged her on June 27th with one simple misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.

Klein is well known to Woodbury County law enforcement and quickly becoming well known to local law enforcement. Klein has been convicted in Woodbury County of 28 criminal offences dating back to 2004.

Those criminal offences include:
13 counts of public intoxication
3 counts of trespassing
2 counts of 5th degree theft
2 counts of failure to pay taxi cab fare
2 counts of simple assault
1 count of disorderly conduct
1 count of interference with official acts
1 count of possession of drug paraphernalia
1 count of obstruction of emergency communications
1 count of 5th degree criminal mischief
1 count of possession of alcohol by a minor

Klein was released on her own recognizance following an initial appearance Wednesday afternoon. The current arrest warrant in Scott County only directs law enforcement to detain Klein if she is found in Scott or bordering counties.
