A Celebration of his life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Harbor of New Hope Church, 804 North Tyler Avenue, Mason City, IA. The family will greet friends and relatives following the service.
Richard Frederick “Kermit” Lomholt was born August 14, 1965 in La Miranda, CA the son of LeRoy and Sharon (Johnson) Lomholt. The family soon moved to Osage, IA and later Mason City where Kermit graduated from Mason City High School in 1984. He was blessed with two children: Nick and Lynsey.
Kermit was a true jack of all trades, always keeping himself busy with projects and tinkering. His career spanned construction work, semi-truck driving, and ultimately, his passion for working independently. A gifted mechanic, Kermit took great joy in teaching his children and grandchildren the skills of life, from life lessons and money management to repairing their own cars and trucks. No job was too daunting for him; he approached every challenge with a calm determination, confident he would find a solution.
In his leisure time, Kermit found peace and joy on his motorcycle, relishing the open road, camping under the stars, and casting lines in quiet fishing spots. But above all, Kermit cherished his family. His bond with Dawn, which blossomed from a 15-year friendship into a loving 17-year partnership, brought together two families, earning him three more children: Lindsi, Emili, and Dustin. His love for his grandchildren was unmatched, and his playful, generous nature made him a beloved figure to all who knew him.
Kermit’s family remembers him as a prankster, a generous soul, a loyal friend, and a humble man who would go to great lengths to help anyone in need. Though his plans remain unfinished, his family is committed to seeing them through, ensuring his spirit and story continue to inspire those who loved him.
