OELWEIN, IOWA – At least a dozen people were rounded up in connection to various drug crimes after Northern Iowa law enforcement raided two houses in this small town.
Local law enforcement executed a pair of search warrants on Monday, June 19, 2023. The results of both warrants were a number of arrests and criminal charges, police say.
At approximately 11:11 AM on Monday, June 19, 2023, the Oelwein Police Department executed a search warrant in the 100 block of 1st Ave NW in Oelwein. During the course of the search warrant, illegal controlled substances were located and seized. The following subjects have been arrested and charged:
1) Lucas Doyle Bennett, 32 of Oelwein:
Gathering Where Controlled Substances are Used- Class D Felony
Possession of Marijuana 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Possession of Hydromorphone 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Child Endangerment- Aggravated Misdemeanor
Unlawful Possession of Prescription Medication- Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
2) Jade Lynn Ann Nuehring, 40 of Oelwein
Gathering Where Controlled Substances are used- Class D Felony
Possession of Marijuana 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Possession of Hydromorphone 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Child Endangerment- Aggravated Misdemeanor
Unlawful Possession of Prescription Medication- Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
3) Rachel Ann Latham, 49 of Oelwein
Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine-Class C Felony
Gathering Where Controlled Substances are Used- Class D Felony
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
4) Timothy Michael Kearns, 57 of Oelwein
Possession of Marijuana 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine 3rd or subsequent offense- Class D Felony
Gathering Where Controlled Substances are used- Class D Felony
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
The subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial appearance. Additional charges are pending.

Child Endangerment- Aggravated Misdemeanor
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine 1st offense- Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana 1st offense- Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
7) Paul Robert Kisner, 61 of Oelwein
Gathering Where Controlled Substances are Used- Class D Felony
8.) Monty Curtis Numedahl, 63 of Oelwein

Additional charges are pending and this case is still under investigation.
At approximately 1:00 PM on Monday, June 19, 2023, the Oelwein Police Department executed a search warrant in the 600 block of 6th Ave SW in Oelwein. During the course of the search warrant, illegal controlled substances were located and seized. The following subjects have been arrested and charged:

3) Larry Edwin Shannon, 57 of Oelwein

4) Jonya Marie Ruth Smith, 37 of Oelwein
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine 1st – Serious Misdemeanor

The subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial appearance. Additional charges are pending.
The Oelwein Police Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, the Independence Police K-9 Unit, the Independence Police Department, and the Oelwein Community Development Department.
