CLEAR LAKE – A natural gas leak led to a mobile home fire in a Clear Lake mobile home and a resident fled in time to avoid the heat.

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 5851 South Shore Drive Lot number 32 (Long Beach Mobile Home Park) in Clear Lake at 12:26 PM on Monday, June 17. Upon arrival, firefighters found a single story home with heavy smoke throughout the trailer and a small fire showing in a kitchen. An aggressive interior attack was made with the aid of positive pressure ventilation. The fire was quickly brought under control and extensive overhaul was done.

Clear Lake Firefighters were assisted at the scene by 1 engine company from the Ventura Fire Department with 2 firefighters and the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department.

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 1 engine company, 2 medic units, and 1 support truck with a total of 11 firefighters.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been a natural gas leak in a supply line to the stove.

The home is owned by Elizabeth Newman; she was at home at the time of the fire and was able to escape prior to the fire department arrival. The property is insured.
