Betty Jo was born April 23, 1947 in Mason City to Felix and Jewel (Freida) Parker. She graduated from Mason City High School. Shortly after graduating, she began working at Mercy Hospital in Mason City as a physical therapy assistant. She worked for them from 1966 to 2009. During her 43 years of service as an assistant, she also worked two other part time jobs for much of her earlier years. After leaving Mercy, she began working at Hy-Vee as a cashier doing what she loved most; helping people. In February of this year, she moved to Urbandale to be closer to family.
Betty Jo enjoyed much in her life. Family meant the world to her and she cherished every moment she spent with them. She loved word searches and soap operas; she still recorded Young and the Restless on VHS up until a few years ago. Betty was well known for her sweet tooth and especially enjoyed her ice cream.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Douglas (Pam) Calaway, Anthony (Liz) Calaway, Christina Jo (Andy) Mayer; grandchildren, Taylor (Jasani), Lauryn, Eboni, Parker, Bryce, Zoe, Ian and Lily Jo; great grandchild, Aaliyah along with many other friends and extended family.
She will be reunited with her parents, and her three brothers, Gale, Jerry and Richard Parker.
