DES MOINES – The Iowa Firefighter’s Association, along with Mason City Fire Chief Bob Platts, met with legislators in Des Moines this week.
Wednesday morning, the Iowa Firefighters Association along with the Iowa Fire Chiefs and Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs hosted a Legislative Breakfast at the Capital.
“This is an annual event to get an opportunity for local fire officials to meet with their legislators to discuss legislation in reference to Fire and EMS services,” Chief Platts said.
“Iowa’s firefighters, both professional and volunteer, have a long history of service to our communities,” Senator Amanda Ragan said after the event. “The association helps protect Iowans through better training, setting standards for equipment and fire prevention education.”
“Actually this year there are limited issues for the fire service most of them having to do with volunteer services. Also during that time (7 AM to 9 AM) the Iowa DOT and DNR were hosting similar events in the Capital so our attendance was not what we would have liked.”
