AMES, Iowa – April 8, 2013 – The Iowa Department of Transportation and City of Ames are lighting up the night to remind motorists to use extra caution in work zones.
Ames’ gateway lighting on U.S. 30 near Interstate 35 will be lighted in orange for Work Zone Awareness Week April 15-19.
Lighting up the gateway at U.S. 30 and I-35 is especially meaningful as a major reconstruction project on U.S. 30 begins today just east of the interchange and extends all the way to Nevada. For more information on this project, go to the Iowa DOT news release.
For Fiscal Year 2013, the Iowa DOT is anticipating approximately $600 million in repairs to Iowa’s state highway system. Cities and counties across the state will add to the increased safety of Iowa’s motoring public with their own improvement projects.
