Forest City, Iowa – November brings homecoming, theatre performances and concerts to Waldorf College.

Waldorf will celebrate over a century of history and tradition at homecoming Friday through Sunday, Nov. 1-3. The weekend is full of events, including a parade and art fair, as well as football, volleyball, and men’s and women’s soccer match-ups. On Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m., the Waldorf Choir will present a homecoming concert at Immanuel Lutheran Church. There is no cost to attend.

The theatre department’s vocal talents will be on display at Musical Theatre Showcase on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in Smith Theatre. In the first half of the showcase, student will singsolos, duets, and ensembles from their dream Broadway roles, while the second half will highlight excerpts from the Broadway hit Avenue Q and feature marionettes constructed in a puppetry class taught by assistant professor of theatre Dr. David Sollish.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m., a free student recital will be presented in the Odvin Hagen Recital Hall.

The Eastern Iowa Brass Band will perform at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3p.m. Iowa’s only British-style brass band, the group’s concerts often include marches, Broadway show tunes, and well-known orchestral and wind band arrangements. Tickets for the show are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased from the Forest City Chamber of Commerce, by calling the Waldorf Information Center at 800-292-1903, or at the door the afternoon of the event.

Waldorf’s director of creative writing Tim Bascom will read from his new works on Monday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Luise V. Hanson Library Lounge.

The second show of Smith Theatre’s 2013-14 season is the tragedy Macbeth. Shakespeare’s tale of prophecy and murder will be presented Wednesday, Nov. 20 through Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and non-Waldorf students and can be reserved by calling the Box Office at 641-585-8585 or online at http://www.waldorf.edu/Residential/Fine-Arts.

Waldorf’s Art Gallery will host an artist reception on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. for its second show of the year, “The Social and Economic Decline of the Rural United States,” by photographer and Waldorf alumnus Matthew Peake. An artist talk will take place at 3 p.m. There is no admission fee. The show is open October 21 through December 6

Two student recitals will welcome the winter months to Waldorf. The first is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m., followed by a piano recital on Monday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The free performances will take place in the Odvin Hagen Recital Hall.
