GREENE, IOWA — Theodore Brown “Ted” Boller, 87, of Greene, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Ted was born October 5, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Carlton and Helene Miller Boller. He graduated from Greene High School and attended the University of Iowa for two years before earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
According to his obituary, Ted devoted 22 years to the United States Air Force, serving as an air traffic controller and retiring with the rank of captain.
His military career took him to numerous locations, including a four-year assignment in Germany. It was there that he met Ingrid Schoen. The couple married June 27, 1970, in Würzburg, Germany, and shared 56 years together.
After retiring from the Air Force, Ted continued working in several roles. His obituary notes that he worked in the business office at Bellevue University, provided security for Wells Fargo banks and later served as a security guard at Boys Town. He retired from working in 1996, after which he and Ingrid moved to Greene.
Ted was an enthusiastic collector whose interests included antiques, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles and nearly anything else that caught his attention.
He was also a member of Tack-Barnett American Legion Post 268 in Greene, maintaining his connection to fellow veterans and the local community.
Ted is survived by his wife, Ingrid; daughter Michelle Boller of Davenport; son Steve Boller of Greene; sister Mary of Greene; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Robin.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, 519 North First Street in Greene.
A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Greene.
