BREMER COUNTY – An unconscious Waterloo driver was charged with three counts of child endangerment and drunk driving.
Police say the incident took place on September 5, 2022. Deputies with the Bremer county sheriff’s office were summoned to a stalled vehicle near Janesville on Highway 218. When deputies arrived, they found the driver, 37-year-old Sidney Sherrard Chatman of Waterloo, was found passed out behind the wheel with three juvenile children in the backseat. Chatman was later charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), and three counts of child endangerment.
Chatman has entered a not-guilty plea and awaits a December 1, 2022 jury trial. Records show Chatman has at least 9 other traffic citations just this year.
