Bad winter causes expensive accidents in Floyd county Monday morning

RURAL FLOYD COUNTY – A band of bad weather rolled through North Iowa Monday morning, leaving streets and roads icy and some folks left with smashed vehicles.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that their employees stayed busy this morning with 2 separate accidents on Hwy 218 north of Floyd. The first accident occurred at about 8:45 AM at Hwy 218 and 140th St. A vehicle was stopped on the highway waiting to turn when it was rear-ended by a semi. Minor injuries reported and total damage estimated at $10,000. Weather was not a factor. FCSO assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Floyd Co. EMA and Floyd Fire.

The second accident occurred about 11:15 AM at the railroad crossing near 150th St. A semi was stopped for a train when it was rear-ended by another semi which then hit the moving train. A 3rd and 4th semi then crashed into these semis. Minor injuries reported and 1 subject was transported by AMR Ambulance. Total damage estimated at $150,000. Snow and whiteout conditions at the time. FCSO assisted by Floyd and Colwell Fire.
