IOWA CITY – It’s still a Hawkeye state, but Iowa’s rival Iowa State plans to make a statement this season as both teams make the preseason top 25 in the AP poll.
The Iowa Hawkeyes come in ranked number 20, while Iowa State is right behind them in the number 21 position. Defending national champion Clemson is number 1, with perennial favorite Alabama number 2.
Iowa State ended it season with a 28-26 loss in the Alamo Bowl against No. 13 Washington State, while Iowa beat Missippi State 27-22 in the Outback Bowl and finished ranked number 25.
Iowa will face Iowa State in Ames on September 14. Iowa has won four straight games against the Cyclones.
