Mendez powers No. 4 Lady Trojans, 79-62

MASON CITY – Freshman Autam Mendez scored a career-high 30 points, including eight 3-point goals, to lead No. 4 NIACC to a 79-62 victory over Iowa Central in an ICCAC women’s basketball contest Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.

Mendez was 11 of 19 from the field, including a 8 of 13 performance from 3-point range. Mendez also added nine rebounds and two steals.

The eight three-point goals in a game is tied for 12th on NIACC’s all-time single-game three-point list.

Also for the Lady Trojans (11-3 overall, 2-0 in the ICCAC), Mandy Willems scored 17 points. Jada Buford scored 13 points and Tahya Campbell scored 12 points.

It was NIACC’s ninth straight win over the Tritons.

NIACC returns to action Saturday in a non-league contest at Iowa Western. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
