MASON CITY – Larry Davis, a Mason City man remembered for his devotion to family, his faith, his years of work and his love of hunting, fishing and helping others, has died.

Davis, 83, of Mason City, died May 18, 2026.

He was born August 1, 1942, in Des Moines to Cecil H. and Lillian Davis. He grew up in the Madrid and Johnston areas before his family moved to Clear Lake and later Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1960.

Davis learned the drywall trade early in life through the family business, Davis Drywall. After high school, he worked in construction, at Decker’s Meat Packing and for the City of Mason City. His city work included time in the sanitation department and later as a Mason City police officer. He served as an officer until an on-duty accident forced him into early retirement.

Davis married Peggy on September 9, 1983, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together, they built a life around family, faith, community and the outdoors. They purchased and remodeled an acreage in rural Mason City, where they lived for about 20 years before moving to their Mason City home in 2003.

Faith became a central part of Davis’ life. He and Peggy began attending Open Bible Church in Clear Lake in 1995, where they became members and served in many ways. Davis served as an elder, helped with a ministry that provided meat to the community, assisted in church kitchen work, drove the church van for elderly members and children, and took part in outreach to residents at Oakwood Care Center. He also served on mission trips to India and Mexico.

Davis loved the outdoors from the time he was young, especially hunting and fishing. Those interests became family traditions, first with his sons and later with Peggy and their family. He also enjoyed fishing trips, auctions, antiques, treasure hunting and spending time with the many friends made along the way.

His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He treasured time with them through fishing, trips to Adventureland and Branson, movies at home and mini golf.

Davis is survived by his wife, Peg; his sons, Roland Davis and Todd Davis; stepson, Jim Barkema; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Mick Davis, Rick Davis, Becky Eskildsen and Jack Davis; extended family members; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Roland and James Davis; sister Linda Froning and her husband, Bart; great-grandson Devlin Obregon; father-in-law Ralph Shafer; and nephew Brent Eskildsen.

A visitation was scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Open Bible Church, 509 S. 17th St. in Clear Lake. A celebration of life was scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Open Bible Church, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.

Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements. To read more and see the full obituary, please click here.
