Man assaulted in Mason City during transaction; police arrest suspect on felony robbery charge

MASON CITY - A man was assaulted during a transaction in Mason City, and police arrested a suspect on a felony robbery charge.

MASON CITY – A man was assaulted during a transaction in Mason City, and police arrested a suspect on a felony robbery charge.

On September 30th, 2022, Mason City Police Officers responded to a possible robbery in the 600 block of North Pennsylvania. The caller stated that he was trying to sell an item and a male subject tried taking it from the caller.

The caller was assaulted by the male subject. The caller then used his knife to get away from the male subject. The caller declined medical attention and the male subject was later taken to Mercy One. The male subject was treated for minor injuries and released.

Officers arrested Derek Rafael, age 28. Rafael was charged with 2nd Degree Robbery a class C felony. He is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
