MASON CITY – A carnie who was in the area to work at the Clear Lake 4th of July celebration and who allegedly tried to steal a popular writer’s wallet at a local watering hole failed to appear for court and is now behind bars.

According to witness accounts, on June 27th, Corey Tangman and his partner Randale Logan worked together to steal the wallet and cash of Todd Blodgett, 51, who was sitting with friends at a table that evening on the outdoor patio at Rumorz Bar in Clear Lake.

After a brief Clear Lake police investigation, police took Logan into custody at the scene and later located Tangman, who was staying in a mobile home down the street with other employees of the carnival.

Randale Logan plead guilty to negotiated 5th degree theft charges on July 29th stemming from the incident and received 3 days in jail from Judge Patrick Byrne.

On October 8, 2012, Tangman pled guilty to fourth-degree theft.  He was sentenced to 45 days in jail and $1,140 in fines, court fees and other charges, which he eventually paid in full.
