MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was already serving probation in an OWI case was arrested after police responded to a reported disturbance at a local apartment complex.
Mason City police were sent at 5:46 p.m. on May 21, 2026, to 215 2nd Street SW, apartment 1401, for a report listed as disorderly conduct, disturbance, fight or out-of-control situation, according to police records. This location is the River II Apartments, nestled along Willow Creek.
Police arrested Branden Austin Scheidemantle, 28, at the scene. He was charged with public intoxication, first offense, under Iowa Code section 123.46(2), police and court records show.
Jail records also list Scheidemantle as being held on a violation of probation allegation. Bond information listed $300 cash only on the public intoxication charge and $2,000 cash only in the defendant’s name on the probation violation matter.
The probation allegation stems from a prior Cerro Gordo County OWI case. Court records show Scheidemantle was originally charged in 2025 with operating while under the influence, third offense or subsequent offense, a Class D felony, after an alleged offense on May 23, 2025. The criminal complaint in that case was filed by the Iowa State Patrol on May 25, 2025.
Court records show Scheidemantle later pleaded guilty on September 30, 2025, to an amended charge of operating while under the influence, second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. Judge Karen K. Salic sentenced him to 365 days in jail, with 335 days suspended, and placed him on probation for two years. He was also ordered to pay a $1,875 fine and comply with DNA requirements, according to court records.
The new probation violation allegation lists an offense date of May 20, 2026, one day before the Mason City police disturbance call and arrest. Court records do not list a disposition on the probation violation allegation.
Court records in the new public intoxication case show the criminal complaint was filed by the Mason City Police Department on May 21, 2026. Scheidemantle made an initial appearance on May 22, and court records indicate he was held for bond. A public defender was appointed, and a non-jury trial was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 30, 2026, in magistrate court.
Public intoxication, first offense, is a simple misdemeanor under Iowa law. Court records show no disposition has been entered in the new case.
Scheidemantle is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
