MASON CITY – Alex Kuhn has announced to the media that he will be a candidate for the at-large seat in this fall’s city council election. Max Weaver currently holds that seat and has not decided if he will run for re-election. At-large council members represent all four wards of the city equally. Scott Tornquist is the other at-large council member and is not up for re-election.
Kuhn, 29, said that he decided to run after “thoughtful consideration.” He says his “experience and passion for public service makes me a great candidate to represent you on our City Council.”
Kuhn said that if elected, he looks forward to “working hard with fellow council members to enhance our communities’ strengths while correcting our weaknesses.”
“I am a true believer in effective, efficient government for its citizens. I have worked at both State and Federal levels of government in the Iowa House of Representatives and the United States Senate.”
Kuhn says his campaign will focus on four fronts:
– Fostering economic development
– Citizen advocacy and volunteerism
– Quality of life
– Sound city budgeting
Kuhn is a graduate of Iowa State University and currently works for Henkel Construction as Business Development Director. Kuhn has also worked for the United Way. Kuhn is an avid tennis player and his father, Mark Kuhn, was a State Representative. Kuhn has a wife and two young sons.
