Man mugged on North End; suspect apprehended

MASON CITY – Police say they caught a man who mugged another early Tuesday morning on Mason City’s North End.

According to police, officers responded to a report of an assault shortly before 3 AM Tuesday morning near the 800 block of North Federal Avenue. The victim had been robbed of his wallet and cell phone.

Within minutes, officers stopped a possible suspect near the intersection of 2nd Street and North Penn Ave. During the investigation, the victim’s wallet was found in the possession of the suspect and he was also positively identified by the victim.

Aaron Paul Ryerson, 42, no permanent address, was arrested and charged with 2nd degree robbery (a class C felony) and public intoxication (a simple misdemeanor). Ryerson is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

The victim, a 29 year-old man, received minor injuries during the robbery and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
