Top Travel Destinations For The Outdoors Lover

You want your chosen travel destination to tick all the boxes. No matter where you go, some prerequisites for your time spent away will stay the same. You want comfort, the best buck possible for your money, and great food and drink. You want to see the best sights your chosen destination has to offer with fun activities packed into each day. If being absorbed in nature, discovering forests previously unknown, wide open expanses with undulating hills and miles of coastline sounds like your idea of heaven, below are our top destinations any outdoors lover will adore.

The UK

If you’re one for donning your hiking boots and withstanding the cold, look towards the UK for inspiration for the perfect getaway. Make your way to Scotland for the view from the top of Ben Nevis, which is the highest mountain in the British Isles. Staying in Scotland; Edinburgh has a range of outdoor activities to offer, you can traverse the maze of medieval streets in the Old Town, and visit Edinburgh Castle while you’re there. Travel to Ireland, where you could spend days walking in the Wicklow mountains near Dublin. The Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland is also a stunning destination to keep in mind. If you plump for one of these, it goes without saying; there’s plenty to do in each.

Portugal

If you love satisfying your enthusiasm for changing scenery, then consider enjoying the Mediterranean climate in the capital of Portugal. This colourful city should feature highly on your “Go To” list if the idea of discovering a haven of European wildlife sounds up your street! Expansive coastlines and horse riding excursions along the beach are also waiting for you in Lisbon. If the thought of cobbled streets and soft sand beaches makes you nod your head and imagine them longingly, then be sure to reach eagerly for your passport. It is always best to be well informed before going away, so read over a Lisbon travel guide and start letting your travel plans take shape.

Iceland

Prepare to go Nordic. There are many possibilities for travel in Iceland, and it’s becoming popular to drive around the country in a functional camper van. The Golden Circle route is approximately 300 km long and takes you from the country’s capital, Reykjavik, to the southern uplands and back down again. If brave, and fit enough, you can make this journey instead by foot. Since Iceland is one of the most scarcely populated countries in the world, you can walk for miles and not see another person, only the expansive landscape. Walking will, of course, take you far longer. Consider doing this route partly by car, partly on foot. Iceland is renowned for being a country of outstanding natural beauty, and it should be topping your list of travel destinations if you fancy a quiet time away. If you enjoy the quiet activity of writing and drawing while outdoors, then consider taking a notebook and a sketch-pad with you, you could even attempt sketching the Gullfoss Waterfall.
