MASON CITY – A report of a suspicious subject led to the arrest of a Mason City man, who was then put in a jail cell he allegedly damaged.
Mason City police were dispatched early Saturday morning, August 5 for reports of a suspicious subject at up to two locations. Upon locating the subject, later identified as 32-year-old Stephen Louis Bartling of Mason City, officers investigated and put him under arrest for interference with official acts.
Bartling was booked into he county jail at about 2:28 AM. Later, deputies there took a criminal mischief report taken for damage to a cell and charged Bartling with second-degree criminal mischief for causing damage to a cell over $1,000 but less than $10,000.
Bartling was accused of burglary in Mason City last year, but took a plea deal and was guilty of just third-degree theft. He was fined.
