Plea change hearing scheduled for Hampton man accused of sexually abusing child

HAMPTON, IOWA – A plea change hearing has been scheduled for a Hampton man who previously said he’s not guilty of sexually abusing a child.

After an investigation, on April 20, 2017, 71-year-old Michael Lynn Rodemeyer Sr. of Hampton was arrested and charged with Two counts of Second Degree Sexual abuse, Class B Felonies by the Hampton Police Department and One count of Second Degree Sexual Abuse a Class B Felony and One Count of Third Degree Sexual Abuse a Class C Felony by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Rodemeyer was seen by the magistrate, had his initial appearance and was placed on a $200,000 dollar bond.

The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred over a two year period in Hampton and rural Franklin County against a child. The Hampton police department and the Frankling county sheriff’s department were assisted in the investigation by the Department of Human Services and the Child Protection Center.

At an earlier arraignment, Rodemeyer entered a not-guilty plea. A jury trial was scheduled for May 31 and a pre-trial conference (possible plea deal) would be held that same day. However, the trial was delayed, and then in June, Rodemeyer and his attorney sought to change his plea in the case. A hearing has been set for August 3.
