Mason City man given 90 days in jail in connection with alleged attack

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who allegedly attempted to break down a woman’s door has has been given an additional jail sentence after violating his probation.

On the evening of October 24, 2015, around 7:06 PM, a woman at 1525 North Washington reported a known male subject, 34-year-old Jonathan Paul Quinones, was trying to force his way inside her residence. This rental house is the residence of his ex-girlfriend, and he was supposedly seeking to see his child. The doors were locked and Quinones allegedly tried to kick in the door, causing at least $500.00 damage. Mason City police and Cerro Gordo deputies raced to the scene, but Quinones fled before officers arrived. Mason City police applied for an arrest warrant and it was signed by a judge, on a charge of 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief (an aggravated misdemeanor).

On October 29, Quinones was arrested on the warrant and jailed and later pleaded not guilty.

However, on March 1, 2016, Quinones pleaded guilty to third degree criminal mischief.
He was immediately sentenced to 365 days in jail with all but 15 days suspended; a fine was suspended, but he was ordered to pay $920.00 in court fees and costs. He was also placed on a year of probation.

However, after an incident this past May, Quinones was accused of violating his probation. On July 12, a judge found him guilty and he was sentenced to 90 days in jail and a no-contact order with the alleged victim was extended to the year 2021. He is in the county jail now, serving his sentence.
