MASON CITY – A major construction project is underway for a new fieldhouse and natatorium at Mason City High School, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held this week.
The event was held May 19, just outside Mohawk Field on the high school grounds at Mason City High School. A new fieldhouse and natatorium is being constructed, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Mason City property tax payers and the unrelenting ability of the school board to tax them with practically no boundaries. The event featured a welcome from Superintendent of Schools Dave Versteeg, student reflections on the project, and a “turning of the shovels.”
“It’s all about the kids, so it was great to hear from MCHS students how excited they are about the new fieldhouse and natatorium at yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony!” Henkel Construction proclaimed after the event. They are again in charge of the project after submitting the winning bid of $23,920,000. The project will take at least another year to complete.
