Convicted drunk driver, back behind the wheel illegally, gets arrested
MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man who was sent to jail late last year after pleading guilty to at least his third drunk driving charge was caught driving illegally and arrested.
Rodney Dean Ames, age 52, served a jail sentence in the Cerro Gordo county jail last October for drunk driving. In his latest drunk driving arrest, Ames was arrested on August 15, 2015 by a Cerro Gordo deputy and charged with felony third offense drunk driving. However, in a plea deal, Ames pled guilty on September 25 to second offense operating while intoxicated. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail with work release granted, court records show, and those records do not show any of that jail time suspended. He also had to submit a DNA sample and spend 2 years on probation.
Ames was first stopped and arrested in Franklin county back in 2003. He was caught again by Mason City police in February of 2012 and pled guilty to second offense operating while intoxicated.
Ames has been arrested again, this time at 10:37 PM on April 24, when a Cerro Gordo deputy stopped him at 6th Avenue South and South Shore Drive in Clear Lake. He was charged with driving while revoked, a simple misdemeanor, due to his drunk driving convictions.

My ex has 4 drunk driving tickets and one driving on pills and pays his way out of it all the time and still drinks and drives all the time. I have thought about following him after work (stops at the liquor store at 130 and drinks while at work) and have him picked up……cuz he is just a menace….actually he has 5 just one was in Canada and doesn’t count in the states…is that evil or not?

He may have a nice family, a nice guy and a good friend, however he has a drinking problem and likes to get behind the wheel and drive drunk, which is the problem here, he won’t drive legally for many years.

Irregardless of where or who he was driving, he still is revoked for drunk driving and doesn’t have a d.l.

He was not drinking and driving when he was arrested, his brother needed ER surgery and he took him to the hospital. The parents are elderly and were unable to drive. He didn’t have much choice in the matter. The article is very misleading and has inaccurate information. Get your facts straight before your print to crucify someone. He has a nice family and is a good guy and a great friend who is turning his life around!
