NIACC’s Day, Freund qualify for nationals

niacc_trojans_logoDES MOINES – NIACC’s Jacob Day and Zach Freund both qualified for the NJCAA national outoor track and field meet Friday with their performances at the Grand View Invitational.

Day won the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32 minutes, 44.94 seconds to earn his trip to the national meet, which will be held May 19-21 in Levelland, Texas.

Freund won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:08.29 to earn his trip to nationals.

Also for the NIACC men on Friday, Finn Nightingale won the 200 in a time of 23.27 and was third in the 100 (11.35). Alex Vanderploeg was second in the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.97 and second in the high jump (1.78 meters) and Devon Webster was second in the long jump (6.04 meters).

In the 800, NIACC’s Jose Aguilera was second (2:00.69) and Mark Maddox was third (2:00.93).

In the javelin, NIACC’s Jacob Waddle was second (40.79 meters) and Webster was third (40.75 meters).

NIACC’s Rayvon Gray was fourth in the 100 (11.49).

For the NIACC women, Steinunn Atladottir won the long jump (4.99 meters) and Sola Stephenson was sixth (4.16 meters).

Stephenson was second in the 200 (28.96), Taylor Glawe was third in the high jump (1.55 meters), Stephenson was third in the javelin (33.94 meters) and Jordan Lane was fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase (14:09).

NIACC returns to action April 1-2 at the Wartburg College Select Invitational in Waverly.
