North Iowa Concert Band Presents Spring Concert on April 2

MASON CITY – The North Iowa Concert Band, under the direction of John Klemas, will present a Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. in the North Iowa Community Auditorium on the North Iowa Area Community College campus.

The band’s performance will focus on the theme “Dance Music of the Americas”. From an early American rag, to a Cajun-style country dance, to a Cuban danzón the program will sample music inspired by some of the many dances from North, South, and Central America.

The concert program will include “Cajun Folk Songs II” by Frank Ticheli II. Country Dance; “Four Dances from West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein as arranged for Symphonic Band by Ian Polster, 3. Cha-cha 4. Cool (Fugue); “Suite of Old American Dances” by Robert Russell Bennett, 1. Cake Walk, 2. Schottische, 3. Western One-Step, 4. Wallflower Waltz, 5. Rag; and “Danzón No. 2” by Arturo Márquez as transcribed for Symphonic Band by Oliver Nickel.

Tickets for the performance are $5 for adults and are available at the NIACC Business Office (641) 422-4188. Tickets can also be purchased at the door the night of the concert. All students will receive free admission. A reception in the Muse-Norris Conference Center will be held following the concert.
