CLEAR LAKE – If you love to fish, you may discover new fishing locations and more details across Iowa with the enhanced DNR mobile-friendly fishing atlas, the agency said today.

The popular DNR online interactive fishing atlas will be updated on May 14 with a fresh design and improved search features to help anglers plan their fishing trips more efficiently. New features will streamline angler access to details on hundreds of lakes, ponds, rivers, and trout streams throughout Iowa, including information on access points, amenities, and fish species.

The enhanced Iowa Fishing Atlas features a modern, mobile-friendly interface designed for ease of use on phones and tablets. Improved address search features uses an angler’s device current location to easily find nearby fishing spots. Anglers can also drop a pin anywhere on the map to explore nearby fishing opportunities.

“Anglers planning to go off grid or don’t like carrying a cell phone on fishing trips can easily create a printable custom map detailing lake contours, fishing structures, or trout streams,” explains Lewis Bruce, DNR fisheries research biologist. “The measuring tool is also great for planning a river float. The line distance tool can help you map out how many miles you plan to float.”
