Canzeri named to the 2015 Doak Walker Award Watch List

logo_iowa_hawkeyesIOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior running back Jordan Canzeri has been named to the 2015 Doak Walker Award Watch List. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top college running back. The list of candidates was announced Thursday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

Canzeri (5-foot-10, 205 pounds) is a senior from Troy, New York (Troy High School). A year ago he rushed 102 times for 494 yards, had nine receptions for 123 yards and one touchdown, and averaged 19.3 yards on seven kickoff returns. He led Iowa’s rushing attack in the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl, rushing 12 times for 120 yards.

Canzeri has had a productive career for the Hawkeyes, becoming the 45th Iowa running back to surpass 1,000 career rushing yards. In three seasons Canzeri has 207 rushing attempts for 1,089 yards and two touchdowns, to rank 36th in career rushing. He has 19 career receptions for 212 yards and two scores, and has an 18.4 average on 14 kickoff returns.

Ten semifinalists will be named on Nov. 18, with three finalists being announced Nov. 24. The recipient of the 2015 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN on Dec. 10, with the official presentation in Dallas taking place in early 2016. Iowa’s Shonn Greene earned the 2008 Doak Walker Award.

Iowa opens the 2015 season on Saturday, Sept. 5, hosting Illinois State inside Kinnick Stadium (11 a.m., BTN).
