Grant helps sponsor after school program in Rockford

ASK 2015 1

“The ASK program has been ongoing for six years”, director Deb Kadera, was quoted as saying. “We expect anywhere from 2 to 15 kids – but always plan for 15 so we have plenty of materials for crafts and snacks available.”

The Rockford school district generously allows the program to use one of their classrooms. Middle school students serve as helpers, senior students volunteer for silver cord credit, and foster grandparents help to staff the program. Director Kadera meets with the volunteer board every two months for planning and discussion.

Students may attend this program before school or after school, allowing families with working parents flexibility in dropping off and picking up their students. The students enjoy a safe, educational environment where learning, playing, and socializing are all a part of each day’s experience. This program will continue until school is out for the summer – May 21st, and will be followed by a similar all day program, SOAR (Schools Out at Rockford).
