Op-ed: Weaver should run for council (by Peter Children)

Well it’s Monday and time to decipher John’s column once more. Question; why hasn’t John ever considered running for a seat at that table? Maybe he feels he can add more fuel to the fire with his typewriter and trusty can of gasoline by his desk. I would think most people with high school degrees pretty much know where he sits by now.

Max….in John’s mind is enigmatic, but those who know Max realize he only wants to protect the city he loves from the likes of John’s two favorite players, Bookmeyer and that world class liar who says he brings Jesus with him to the table. That would be Turncoat, aka Tornquist for anyone new to this city.

Both of John’s favorites will run for re-election. Their egos simply wouldn’t allow otherwise. Not to run would require much more decency than either of these two possess. Instead of collecting wages, this city should issue vouchers to these two to the mental health center and weekend stays at 5 East.

I personally would like to see Matt Marquardt run for Fourth Ward, that is a seat that has suffered. All during Janet Solberg’s term it has served as a learn-as-you-go seat….and very little has been learned by Solberg as far as anyone can see. How on God’s earth did this current council ever come to be? What a f..king curse has been laid over this city for over three years.

I believe in prayer, I pray. I pray the entire council resigns en masse. What a gift that would be to the good citizens of our community. Maybe if the entire community all paused next Friday and in unison asked Jesus (when of course He wasn’t with Turncoat), to hear our prayer, it might work. Worth a try, let’s go for 10:00 AM this coming Friday morning.

Back to Max. Pound for pound he’s by far the best buy for this city. I have learned that it isn’t always the the best looking steak in the butcher’s meat case that taste’s the best. Max needs a seat where he can vote, and not just to break a tie. Put Weaver and Marquardt in those chairs and we’ll get our city back.

Weaver should run for council (by Peter Children)

Yeah….And my dog should become a cat too!! What a crock!

I would love for Bill to run against Bookmeyer and I would love to see Max go against Tornquist. I believe that if Bill ran Bookmeyer would not because he can not stand to loose. I wonder as years go by and Bookmeyer thinks about what he did in office how proud he would be himself. It is sad but I think he will sit back and say wow I was a great mayor. I personally think he is the worse Mayor Mason has ever had. I see him go after people he does not like and go after commissions for his own reasons. I keep telling myself this to shall pass.

I like Max..

Did NIT get hacked?

interesting take by Peter. Tornquist might not be great at pr but he is one of the more knowledgeable council members. He is an engineer by training so his approach might not please some people but he does a good job of looking at things from an analytical standpoint.
Not all that impressed with Janet. Need someone with more upstairs and more than two cents worth of common sense. She is at least98cents short of a bucks worth of brains.
Might be hard for Matt to do Nit and be a councilman but he would make meetings interesting.
Bill would win if he decides to run. He has a great following in Mason City.

Max is Max. He is like a Dalmations. you can always spot him in a crowd and he likes being the big dog. Unfortunately his approach would make many on the council feeling mistaken for a water hydrant.
Really think Peter should run so everyone in the community could truly see just how popular he is and what kind of following he has.

” Put Weaver and Marquardt in those chairs and we’ll get our city back.” Sorry Peter, you need one more chair to force a tie then at least one more in the next election to have a majority.

@Reggie (Red)-You are right in that it will not give them the majority needed. However, I think you will agree if the get rid of the mayor and his buddy Turncoat the attitude of the council would certainly change. What do you think?

LVS I would certainly think the direction that Bookmeyer is taking us would change. There still would be a majority of his backers on the council so I’m not sure how drastically it would actually change. Interesting question though.

@Reggie (Red)-you are right. It would be interesting to say the least. I guess if the mayor does get in it would not be the end of the world. Our city has had mayors that used the position to get what their special interest wanted many times. It seems like they all have some type of special interest they want to push. He just seems to be worse than most of them. Maybe because I am getting older and less tolerant.

I hope Max and Matt both run.It would make for a couple of interesting races.Bill Schikel was a good noncontroversial mayor. That too would be fun to watch.

This weekend at a social gathering heard and we will call this a rumor, but from a reliable source that Bill Schikel was considering running for mayor again. Thoughts anybody?

Good points Peter but we also need a strong Mayoral candidate to get Bookban out of there! Any ideas?

the oath one takes when sworn in as a councilman or mayor has words to effect that say “must be true to the city and will not discredit the city”. Basically. If anyone has the actual wordage fine. question is this. If Matt were to run and win something, would this site, NIT, be a conflict of that oath taken?

I for one will be on my knees at 10am Friday. That being said LVS is right. Getting elected is not always a matter of campaigning, it is also a matter of political strategy. One person be it Max or Matt has to run against the no account incumbents…or as LVS says you split the vote. Bookmeyer will get his votes, Max will get his…It then in my opinion gets down to getting “your” people out to vote. In a head to head debate I do not believe Eric can beat Max unless Eric uses EDC like fake numbers, because he really has accomplished nothing.

As far as Matt going against Soleburg that would simply be a rout. It would be as if Matt is running against a potted plant.

Strategy is what it is all about if these two decide to run and make positive changes for this city, they have to use modern day “politicalness” to get elected.

LVS

The split you speak of could go either way. Not necessarily in favor of the incumbent. I think Mr. Budwisier and Turncoat are waithing to see who declares so they can weight their chance. In my grandfather’s village high in the mountains of Montenegro, when they wanted to put a hex on some one they burned grape leaves with that persons photograph. I all ready have the leaves because it is part of my diet.

@Peter-If you need a match just let me know. I am firmly in favor of getting rid of our council and mayor but I would really like to see someone in there that would represent the majority of the working people. I hope Matt decides to run and of course I will support both of them. I just want them to win.

Nice article Peter-If only it were as simple as you would like it to be. There are a lot of things that have to be considered, one of which is how many are running for a given seat? If you have more than two you split the vote and usually the incumbent wins. I am sure that Matt and Max are aware of this. I really don’t think Max will run unless he is convinced he will win. Matt on the other hand is anyone’s guess. Matt could possibly do it because a lot of people would like to see some new blood on the council. You would have to be pretty stupid not to see the weak links there.
