MASON CITY – Mason City man has been arrested for drunk driving for at least the fifth time.
Dana Lee Despenas, age 48, was pulled over by law enforcement Friday morning at about 12:45 AM at 4th Street and Pierce Avenue for a traffic stop. Officers suspected Despenas was intoxicated, and he was placed under arrest after an investigation. He was charged with operating while under the influence, second offense. He was released from jail later Friday.
Despenas has been charged with drunk driving at least five times, court records show.
The first time was on June 10, 2000, and the charge was dismissed (he was charged with second offense operating while intoxicated). The second time was on October 21, 2001, and the charge was dismissed (he was charged with second offense operating while intoxicated). The third time was on December 17, 2001, and the charge was dismissed (he was charged with second offense operating while intoxicated). The fourth time was on August 2, 2012 and he was found guilty of first offense operating while intoxicated.

It is seriously time to remove the local sheriff and chief deputies from their positions. It is time to look seriously at some of the policemen on the streets and how they conduct business. It is time to remove local judges that should never been selected for judgeships in the first place and are very bias. Cleaning up this town must start. If the current enforcement can’t clean it up, replace them. Multiple deaths at the Jail, deputies in after hours bar deputes, no follow up reports explaining to the public how and why this happen…it’s time to elect real enforcement and judges. 5x DWI offenders still allowed to drive…WAKE UP
