MASON CITY – A woman who was accused of stealing and then skipped court was handed a deferred judgement by a judge.
Mariah Leigh Jurgena, age 20 of Mason City, was initially arrested by Mason City police for shoplifting on June 3, 2014 and charged with fifth degree theft. She had a court date on June 20, but she failed to show up. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and Cerro Gordo deputies located her at her home on East State Street on June 25 and took her to jail. She was released the next day on her own recognizance.
Jurgena finally went to trial on August 8 and was given a deferred judgement by judge Rolf Aronsen. He also set one year of probation and assessed $321.94 in fines and court fees.
