Two-vehicle accident at Sheffield shuts down Highway 65

SHEFFIELD – A two-vehicle accident at Sheffield shut down Highway 65 early Thursday morning.

The Sheffield Police Department says that on Thursday June 25, 2020 at approximately 5:40 AM, the Sheffield Police department received a report of two-vehicle accident on Highway 65 and Gilman Street. A 2020 Chevy Silverado pickup owned by Iowa Select Farms was driven by 55-year-old Jerry Loewen of Eldora, Iowa, pulling a hog trailer traveling northbound on Highway 65 when it struck the rear end of a 1992 Chevy S-10 pickup driven by 30-year-old Blane Sjostrand of Hampton, Iowa, who was making a left turn off of Highway 65 into Sheffield on Gilman Street. The 2020 Chevy Silverado Iowa Select farm truck came to a stop on top to the box end of the Chevy S-10 driven by Sjostrand, completely totaling his vehicle. The 2020 Chevy Silverado had damages to the front end of the vehicle.

The Sheffield Police Department shut down the section of Highway 65 from Gilman Street to 25, Street while the Sheffield Fire Department and wrecking crews cleaned up the scene.

Loewen was cited with Failure to maintain a safe distance and proper speed. The investigation is still on-going at this time.
