MASON CITY – Mayor Bill Schickel will deliver his annual State of the City address at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, in the Mason City Room of the Public Library, located at 225 2nd Street SE.
Schickel is expected to recognize individuals who have contributed to what he describes as “a breakthrough year in Mason City.” An advance text also indicates that Schickel will announce the following developments for the city:
– The grand opening this summer of the Destination Iowa Bike Park and Prairie Rock Trails System, along with the new ‘Mason City Riverwalk.’
– Mason City is positioned to become America’s new outdoor recreation destination, offering more amenities at a lower cost of living than any city in the country.
– The city is reducing the cost of housing by increasing the supply, with more new construction last year than in decades.
– A record seven new police officers were hired in the past year.
– The community is bringing new life to the mall with its first-ever community ownership initiative.

– Construction will begin this spring on the downtown Kinseth Hospitality hotel, completing the final piece of the River City Renaissance vision.
“To see the future of our community, look not only at our amenities, beautiful as they are. Rather, look in the mirror and ask, ‘What can I do every day, in every way, to make this city we love better and better and better?” Schickel will conclude.
